Last year at this time, we were in the throes of clearing out, moving in and settling in, so I didn’t even try to plant a garden.  I grew a few beets and a big beautiful zucchini plant in a container beside the deck and called it good enough.  This year, the weather has messed around so much that planning and planting a garden just has not seemed to be terribly doable.  So, I planted some potatoes in a couple of totes, a couple of zucchini seeds in another tote and started some cantaloupes and pumpkins from seed (also in containers/bottles).  And that was pretty darn good, I thought.  Until it started to dawn on me that pumpkins need ROOM to vine out and grow and the 2L pop bottle containers that I had fashioned for them as seeds and seedlings would NOT suffice.

So, like most things, I talked it over with Mr. K.B. and we decided that we were going to designate a spot for me to plant these pumpkins.  And then it happened.  My loverly husband said that he would build me some garden boxes and all of a sudden visions of tomato plants, marigolds and onions danced in my head.  We decided to put the garden boxes where they’d get excellent sunlight and not be in the way of our weekly lawn mowing endeavours.  We decided that up against the side of our raised shed was the perfect location.  Conveniently and frugally, we already had 12×2’s left over from a renovation last summer, so for the cost of the nails to hold them together and the soil, we were going to have a garden this year.

After. So perfect 🙂

So, after a boat-load of work (mostly by Mr. K.B. <3 ), a Sunday afternoon trip to Georgina Garden Center (by Mr, K.B. and Paxie) to pick up a scoop of triple mix, we now have these awesome garden boxes that I carefully planted with tomato plants, garlic, onions and marigolds yesterday, in the rain, while the mosquitoes feasted on my flesh.  But none of my blood shed matters because these garden boxes make me sooooo happy 🙂  Anyone who knows me will tell you that I ain’t much of an outdoorsy girl, but it turns out that I sure do love me some vegetable gardening.  And, of course, Mr. K.B.,  I most definitely love me some all of him too!
